We specialize in combination Elk / Mule Deer hunts. We are located in Idaho’s Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. In 2009 we will only be taking a maximum of 2 hunters a week, and I will be doing all the guiding. For years I have been working towards making the hunt a more personal type of trip and am finally able to do it. During the 2008 season I took 10 hunters, we were 90% shooting on elk and passed on several. We were 70% shooting on mule deer as a secondary animal. We average about a 5x5 elk but obviously harvest some that are quite a bit bigger. On to mule deer, out of the deer we harvest, we average a 4x4 with a 24 inch spread, but again we take some real bruisers 170's, 180's, 190's and some over 200 inches. Our country is rugged and the better shape you are in the better your odds, but being a marathon runner is not vital. We typically do a lot of glassing and not a lot of hiking until we see or hear animals. Once we do spot game, we may do some tough hiking. We hunt from a tent camp located in the River of No Return Wilderness and typically ride out on horses and mules from camp, to hunt each day. The camp is located between 3 and 4 hours from the trailhead. We don't run any better success during a given week on elk, but the mule deer hunting does tend to get better from mid October on. There is quite a bit of the info you will want to know located on our website prices/dates etc. After looking it over, feel free to give me a call or email me with specific questions, I always love to talk hunting. http://elkspringsoutfitters.net/
