I'm glad to see you giving the D/S a good try....one major misconception is the size of the bait....to be honest I like to start with a 6-7" bait
my Buddie won a tourney using a 10" worm and a 2/0 hook
try your favorite floro...i use Triple fish Floro in 4-6# test never more that 8#
BTW that in deep clear impoundments (I'm from So. Cali)
use whats appropriate for where your at
my rod is a Dobyns 681 SXF (med/lt fast Action) I don't set the hook
instead I reel set...sort of like Cranking or Top water
but Ive also D/S with a Med/Hev when needed
try a bigger bait...trust me
