Everyone here is all in favor of gun control. It's just a matter of where
you draw the line....well, maybe there are some nut cases here who want
to buy rocket propelled grenades at the hardware store. But nut cases
don't count.
Should crime soaked cities be able to ban hand guns?
Maybe not. But they should be able to ban concealed weapons,
and register and license all hand guns
in a manner similar to drivers licenses. That might not accomplish
much. But there is no argument against it. Not that holds any water.
Rednecks can blather all they want about gun rights. But the cities are
a mess. And there are way too many guns in the wrong hands. How to
solve that problem isn't clear. But ignoring problems doesn't solve them.
Yankee ingenuity often does. So start thinking and stop complaining. |
I will disagree with you for the most part.
First off, I am completely behind Obama as President of this country until he does something to screw that up. I was a Bush supporter as well but he did plenty of things that lost my support.
The next administration has done or said quite a few things that should be concerning regarding gun rights. I'm not talking about common sense things, because I think they've raised some valid concerns about some things regarding gun control. As you said, there are some crazies that are going to be against ANY type of gun control no matter what, and they are just idiots, BUT...
Cities that have a serious problem with violence or gun violence, what does requiring registration of hand guns do? And furthermore, what does taking it past that and going as far as BANNING hand guns do? Absolutely NOTHING.
It allows you to tack on an extra charge or two to the thug you arrest for something else, but lets face it the prisons are already overcrowded and ultimately it won't mean much other than another line on a rap sheet.
Banning hand guns altogether simply takes them out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Not allowing concealed weapons is essentially the same thing. You can look at Washington D.C. as the prime example of gun violence and gun bans. It is some odd coincidence? It could be I guess.
Increasing taxes on ammunition? What problem exactly, is that going to fix? It's just more of my hard earned tax dollars for or politicians to waste.
I'm not sure what the point of registering my gun would do? It's just another inch to give. I mean, at what point do I have to register my knives, baseball bats, iron skillets, clorox, rat poison, etc? Should I be required to be listed in a federal database if I'm taking self defense classes? You never know when I might flip out and kick somebody in the head.
I realize that's hyperbole but my point is how much control is enough, when none of it benefits us society in the first place?
If I'm a criminal, do you think I give a **** about registering my gun, or the fact that I'm carrying an unregistered, concealed weapon?
Do you think Plaxico Burress getting a 3.5 year MANDATORY MINIMUM sentence for carrying a loaded pistol into a nightclub is going to stop the next thug idiot from doing the same thing? Hell no it's not.
Sorry for the rant. It's a non partisan rant for the most part about the breadth of our government however there is no doubting that there are some very powerful liberal democrats who have not gone out of their way to hide their dislike for firearms and their desire to legislate a much greater deal of control in that regard. If you disagree with that I think you are being blinded a bit by party loyalty.
I'm a Republican but only because I have to be one or the other to vote in my State's primary elections and I feel like it's my duty to make a difference in at least one party. Otherwise I would be a Libertarian because I'm pretty socially liberal. But I am an equal opportunity political party hater. The Libertarians are a joke and likely to never be respected especially when they offer a ticket which includes the biggest joke of a human being ever in Wayne Allen Root.
I look at the issues, not the parties or their opinions on said issues. I think everyone ought to do the same and stop siding with and sticking up for their own party while taking every opportunity to attack the other party and criticize their every move.
It was a mistake for me to create this thread and include it in the newsletter email. As a site owner, I should refrain from making political opinions and I will not ever let them influence my opinions of posters on this forum because we all have our beliefs and opinions and they have little to do with our shared love of the outdoors.
