Canyon Lake (Texas) Guide Report & the Highland Chain of Lakes

Canyon Lake: Water gin clear; 84-87 degrees; 909':

Largemouth are good to 6 lbs at first light along laydowns and stumps
on 3'-8' flats on watermelon Skip-N-Pop topwaters (www.jdcbaits.com),
Terminator custom tungsten spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com)
and wacky rigged watermelon-red Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com)
on a 3/0 "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com). At midmorning, as the
shallow bite slows, move to ledges along deeper mainlake points and
drop shot a smokin'-green Devil's Tongue, a watermelon-char. fleck
JDC 4" Craw or 4" watermelon Super Tube Heavy on a 3/16 oz. jighead
over rockpiles in 12'-20'. Upriver, white-char. Tiny-T buzzbaits, shallow
running crankbaits and Texas rigged 4" pumpkin Ring Worms w/char.
tails produce tight to laydowns on breaklines of channel turns w/deep
water access for the fish. 3" watermelon JDC Craws (www.jdcbaits.com)
rigged weedless on jigheads and Texas rigged creature baits work in cuts
and pockets of bluffs.

Smallmouth are fair at night and first light along ledges and rockpiles
in 10'-15' of water using 3" watermelon-chartreuse JDC Craws, smokin'-
green Devil's Tongues (www.cremelure.com) on drop shot rigs and root-
beer JDC grubs on 1/8th oz. jigheads.

Lake LBJ: Water lightly stained; 85 degrees; 824.88': (*NOTE: "Turn Over is in full bloom throughout the lake and main river tributaries. However, it seems to have only effected the bass bite positively)

Largemouth are good in numbers early A.M. to after mid-morning along seawall rip rap on Bleeding Shad Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com), white-char. 1/8 oz. Tiny-T buzzbaits (www.terminatorlures.com), Daiquiri Skip-N-Pop topwaters (www.jdcbaits.com) and char.-blue back crankbaits. When the bite slows about about midmorning, move to breaklines w/stumps and laydowns in 5'-14' using a wacky rigged watermelon-red 5" Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com) on a 3/0 "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com), pitching a TX. rigged green-pumpkin creature bait or "natural" colored 6" Scoundrel worms rigged on a jighead along boat docks or crawl a watermelon Devil's Tongue on a split shot rig out from shoreline rip rap out.

Stripers are fair to 22" at night under lights on white 2" Spoiler Shads, white bucktail jigs with grub trails and live bait.

White Bass are very good at night using 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishies and Tiny Traps.
Crappie are good on crappie jigs and minnows.

Lake Buchanan: Water clear; 86 degrees; 1017':

Largemouth are fair to good at daylight in 4'-12' along breaklines of creek or flats w/stickups and laydowns using white-char. 1/4 oz. Terminator buzzbaits (www.terminatorlures.com), wacky rigged pumpkin Whacky Sticks(www.cremelure.com) rigged on 3/0 "K" Wacky Hooks (www.falconlures.com) and watermelon Skip-N-Pop topwaters (www.jdcbaits.com) and Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com). Under blue bird conditions, check rockpiles and brush on mainlake drop-offs in 12'-20' with a Carolina rigged pumpkin/char. Snap Back Lizard or grn-pumpkin creature baits and Camo JDC Drop Shot Worm
on a drop shot rig.

Stripers are fair to 24" at night under lights and at daylight from Crystal Cove to the Dam on white 3" Spoiler Shads, Blue 1/2 oz. Pirk Minnows and drifting live bait.

White Bass are fair on main creek points 12'-25' deep and under lights at night on 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishies, chrome Tiny Traps and Pirk Minnows.
