Good news for Oklahoma elk hunters!!

More elk hunting: State wildlife officials plan to ask the state Wildlife Commssion to expand elk hunting opportunites on private land in Kiowa, Comanche and Caddo counties in southwest Oklahoma.

Currently, elk hunting with a gun on private land in those counties is allowed during four days in October and four days in December.

But the Slick Hills Elk Herd — east of SH 115 — is growing and creating depredation problems for farmers, Peoples said.

As a result, state wildlife officials want hunters to be able to harvest an anterless elk east of SH 115, either during the 16-day deer gun season or during the entire month of January.

The commission is expected to vote on the proposal at its April 1 meeting

I've never put in for elk in Oklahoma because I figured "why bother" but maybe I will now.

Marvin,

Didn't your dad draw the first elk tag one year?
