Bow hunt Brown Bear?

Is this completely unheard of, or can it be done? I thought I saw a tape for sale which a bowhunter successfully stalked a grizzly with his bow. Is it possible to find guides for this type of hunt?

It is recomended you use a 50# or greater Bow on big game here in Alaska. I don't think I would try anything less than 70 # unless I was sure of my shot and I was sure the bear didn't know I was there. It only takes a brown bear a very few seconds to cross bow range. At a full charge he will most likely at least hit you before he will drop from a well placed second shot. This part of the lure to hunt a Brownie or a grizzley with a bow. I saw a Tred Barta episode where he went grizzly hunting with a freaking long bow!! I don't think you could ever get me that close to a grizz. His guide had a 45 mag on his hip as a backup. Bear came charging at Tred after his shot and literally fell at his feet.

Years ago ABC had an episode of Wide World of Sports where Fred Bear hunted a bear with a bow. I don't remember if it was a black or griz but he had a back up person with a rifle. I have seen a video of a grizley taken with a bow and was suprised how quickly it died. It didn't charge the bowman , however, but ran away. They waited 30 minutes and then carefully followed the blood trail about 50 yard and found one dead bear. This hunter was backed by a guide with a rifle. I doubt any sane person would go after one with out a back up rifleman in case of a charge. I know guides always back up their hunters with a suitable stoping rifle, even when the client has a powerful rifle along as well. It looks bad for business if the client gets killed.

Tred Barta is a different breed of cat!! I've watched a few of his shows lately and I don't think he is all there!
