Not "When I take an Elk" it should be "If" I take an elk

When you finally decide you've "learned enough" and have a great appreciation for these majestic animals, let me know and I'll make sure you connect on the first day. Probably not going to shoot a 300 class, but a nice 5x5 or 6x6 nontheless.

Woke up yesterday and packed up in the driving snow and drove home. No sense hunting when you can't even see. Plus, Angel Fire was predicted to get 6.78 inches of snow yesterday. We figured if they are getting almost 7 inches, we're about 2000 feet higher, we may get 3 or 4 feet!

We got out of there...of course we did so without an Elk.

Todd, I'd love to come to Colorado and take you up on that Elk Hunt but at this point I don't even want to take the easy way out. I want to hunt down an Elk and beat him, in his own back yard, where I know it was me vs. the Elk and the Elk has the advantage. It's tough hunting there. I kinda feel like I won't be fulfilled until I take an elk from a hunt in unit 49.

Then again, I'm stubborn and it always ends up costing me so maybe I should join you next year in Colorado.

Either that, or I need to find a weapon that can shoot at 1200 plus yards and perfect shooting it. (yes, this is all sarcasm) What do you think, maybe a 50 caliber? Aim right for the middle of the elk and blast? It might ruin some of the meat in the middle but it would save me the effort of gutting the elk. Just blow him in half and bring him out in two pieces?

That's not the extent of my elk hunting scenarios. I need to figure out exactly what is legal. I can't light the woods on fire. I can't use a rocket launcher or grenade launcher.

Night vision is illegal. Thermal imagaing I'm assuming is also illegal.

I can't hunt from a helicopter.

Maybe I'll sneak down there in early September and dart a dozen or so and put some gps tracking devices on them. That will at least solve the "where they are at" hurdle. That solves about 20% of the equation.

While not safe, dressing myself in Elk Hide and dousing myself with elk urine would likely cover most of the scent issue.

I'm still not sure how to go about carrying that 50 caliber around with me. Wonder if even that is legal?

I SUCK at Elk hunting. That might be my new signature. "I suck at Elk Hunting".

Either way it's Elk 3. Aaron 0.
