Heading to Kansas

Heading to Kansas for a long Martin Luther King weekend to chase the ditch chickens around. We'll also try and bag a few quail one of the days. My personal guide Dogman has reported great numbers being taken.

He doesn't need luck. The birds should be pretty disorinted after they get out of the tumbler.

We didn't do too bad on Saturday. I think we shot 32 with some quail thrown in there. Sunday was a different story. The wind was blowing something fierce and the birds that held for us were like rockets when they got up. We had a pretty poor shooting day and I think we bagged 15. We saw a ton of birds, but most of them were extremely wild.

On a side note, I tried out some new shells while I was there and I'm hooked. I was shooting 3" Kent Fast Lead with 1 3/4 oz 5 shot. I ran the balistics on them, and these dudes have a whopping 303 pellets per shell!!! They kick like a mule, but I must say, they're quite deadly ....

I havent used kent fast lead, but if they are any thing like kent fast steel they should be awsome. I hunt open water waterfowl a lot more than upland birds and 3" kent fast steel # 3's are my favorite hands down.
