You know it's good to have friends in good turkey habitat! I was sitting around trying to get my work schedule worked out when the phone rang, it was a lady that owns land I hunt on, she said "there are three big ol' gobblers out in the pasture quick come see if you can get one of them" she said "Dans out in the barn watching them now to see which way they go"! Fifteen minutes later I was there and calling, set up next to a piece of old farm equipment. There were three good toms out in the field with hens and one that was hung up on a fencerow between them and me! I would call they would gobble, the one by himself moved to a fence row between me and him then hung up again. He was about 60 yards away, but I really wanted him to get closer! Dan was watching from his barn and I wanted to put on a good show for him. He lost an arm in a farming accident several years ago and pretty much quit hunting at that time! Well the gobbler just wasn't quite smart enough to get through the fence and I knew the Hevi 13 would drop him at that distance, so I took the shot and down he went! Dan came out to have a look and said, "man I wouldn't have thought you could kill one at that distance with a shot gun", we stepped it off at 54 yards!
The tom sported a 10 3/4 inch beard 1inch spurs!
