This is how it went down ,I finally got the guts to drag all my video stuff out to my stand up a 200ft bluff I set up everything perfectly except my brain...I was very excited to be in my hot stand that I moved right in the middle of where I kept seeing these two monster bucks ,so I new where the bucks where coming from ,so with my shotgun in hand and my camera all set up just after shooting time here comes the does so I hit record,knowing I have an extra doe tag the first big doe I see thats a good shot I shoot ,it looked good it was a 75 yd shot but my browning 20ga is a deer slayer so I thought I smoked it then a few more smaller ones step out then another big doe ,So knowing that my buddy has an extra doe tag and not hearing him shoot I shoot at another one...This Is A Very common sanario when you shot gun hunt ...What I Did Wrong...Very Stupid ...Shooting the Does was very legal and not the problem ,the mistake was shooting at them period .Because anyone who deer hunts knows that a very large number of does usually means a very large buck following them.SO DO NOT SHOOT UNTIL YOU KNOW THAT THE LAST DEER HAS COME OUT OR YOU MAY PASS UP A BUCK OF A LIFETIME LIKE I DID.In Iowa shotgun season you can party hunt, which we wher doing, so you can use the other guys tags that are with you on your deer as long as they are present when the deer are harvested,which he was..so this is totally legal in Iowa...

Sorry you did not get that monster buck, but I'm pretty sure, about 99.999%, that you can't shoot a deer you don't have a tag for even if your buddy does have an unfilled tag so that second doe was taken illegally.

Not trying to be anal and I realize no one's gonna know but you guys (until you post it on a forum) but it is technically illegal unless there's some random state law that I don't know about.

You're right about shooting a doe when there's a chance that there might be a big buck tailing along. Did you get a look at him or get him on video?

Alls I know is an antler dont mean nothin compared to meat in the freezer. Ya cant eat an antler no matter how long ya boil it. Sure a nice pair of antlers looks good on any wall, and they are mostly there so's your pals can say "wow" as you stand there and gloat, but you still cant eat 'em. Harvesting does is just good management...unless its one ya shot for your pal, ilegaly!

in iowa shotgun you can party hunt,which means anyone in your party can use the tag on the deer as long as they are present when the deer are killed...

Never knew that before. Here in Colorado, that will get you in BIG TROUBLE... Here, I know DOW officers carry scanners with them to hear chatter on 2-way radios to catch people doing this exact same thing. Any idea what Iowa's reason for allowing it is?

You cannot use two-way radio transmitters to communicate the location or direction of game ,or to coordinate the movement of hunters in Iowa ,but you can carry one for safety reasons...

Iowa law allows ‘party hunting’ in the shotgun seasons, in which one hunter can
tag a deer shot by another in his group; if done within 15 minutes and before the deer is
moved. Suchy says that if more does are taken, instead of small bucks, those fork-tobasket
sized racks will be much more impressive as the deer beneath them approach
three, four or five years of age.

Man I owe you an apology! I've never heard of anything like that for deer hunting, unless maybe you were issued population control tags for your land.
