What is the best Deer Gun.

What in your opinion is the best gun to hunt deer. I usually hunt in the muzzleload season but when I do rifle hunts its usually with a Remington 25 06 or a 30 06. These may not be the best gun for deer but its a gun you can use for deer as well as other big game. Just wonder some other opinions out there.

I would say best all around gun for deer and elk both would be a 7mm Rem. SAUM. Plenty of knock down power and they are about the flattest shooting gun on the market. Check out the ballistic charts on any ammo website, they're pretty impressive out to long distances.

Not at all, I've shot more animals with my muzzleloader than I can count.

I don't think they make the Short Action Ultra Mag anymore.

I think I'm gonna buy a Remington 7mm short action ultra mag.

I used Ryan's when I went Elk Hunting this season and fell in love with it.

You are right about the ultra flat trajectory.

30-30

I used to have a 30-30 that I must of shot a dozen deer with. I loved that gun!!, my uncle inherited it from my grandfather. I now have many guns, all of which seem to kill very well. I think this has a lot to do with the user, ( no seriously) I am good!!! My traditional gun of choice was a 30-06, but have now moved to a savage bull barelled 25-06 with an ATN 6x18x65 scope. It has interchangeable turrets and I feel I would have no problem taking an animal at up to 500 yards. my only concern comes with the knockdown power at this range. I will let you know how this turns out.

gun

I love my british 303. It was made in 1943. I don't have to trail. They just die - or a 357 mag. I had a broken hand six years ago, so I took my pistol. I shot a 7 point and he just dropped.

Seems to be a pretty popular question and I figured it's a good time for me to join in...

What is the best gun for hunting deer?

I'm getting ready to buy a new deer hunting rifle so I wanted to bump this discussion up.

I won't just bhe hunting deer. I'll also be hunting Elk and other big game.

I can always use a different gun for deer hunting, but I think I've decided to go with the Winchester 300 Magnum.

I really want to go with the Remington 7mm Ultra Mag because it shoots so flat but there are issues with overbore, and since it's not that common there are issues with availability of ammo, etc.

The best gun actually depends on the type of deer hunting you do. For instance, do you hunt in alot of brush and timber,do you still hunt, hunt from a blind or stand or do you mostly drive? And most importantly at what distance are most shots taken? I think only after those factors are considered then an accurate determination can be made. Personally for the type of hunting that I have done my gun of choice is a left handed browning a-bolt with a 3x5 varible scope in a 270 caliber.

Damn lefties... Now who would go and change up a magnificantly beautiful A-bolt to a left hand configuration ? Worse yet, who would teach their right handed son to shoot left handed ? As you can see, i would never be able to shoot this gun because it's not completely backwards from what I normally experience (i.e. backwards safeties, shells ejecting across your face, cheek placement on stocks etc..).

I do completely agree about hunting style and gun selection. That's why it's best to have several to choose from your dad's collection ....
