How far do you go with scent elimination?

Just curious to what extent you go to prevent scent detection by deer? Scent lock clothing, cover scents, attractants, body wash? Pre-hunt rituals such as dressing in the field etc..

Not Enough

I have scent lock clothing and use cover scent more than I regularly wear deodorant. We'll maybe not that much but my wife *****es about my smelling like my fresh earth cover scent! It makes a huge difference, especially when bow hunting. I did use some tink's 69 this year during black powder, ( it came with my subscription to buckmasters). I hung it from two trees wick and poured a little on the ground during opening weekend. I harvested a huge buck opening day and when I returned to bow hunt the next weekend there were two huge scrapes. One underneath each tree that I had put the scent wick, not normal scrapes but monster scrapes. Next year I plan to buy some more tink's 69 and put my trail cam by it to see just what tore the ground to pieces. As far as scent protection goes I don't think you can go to far!! On getting close with Lee and Tiffany, I believe they even have a seperate washer and dryer for their hunting clothes.

I use the Tinks 69 and have had pretty good luck with it. Other than that, scent lock clothing is about as far as I go. Not much you can do for scent elimination for elk hunting. Not sure it matters much anyway. The bull I shot this year, we were in the middle of cooking breakfast on a packable stove. Damn thing could care less... Same thing with a buck my brother passed on year before last. I was visiting him on opening weekend in Weatherford. I was cooking pancakes in his "deer condo" and we had a nice 10 point poke his head out at about 100 yards. Ty had a clear shot on him, but passed up for a bigger one he had been seeing. I'm sure wind direction probably had more to do with it than anything.

Well I can tell you this.

I'll be using every cover scent known to man next year including chewing gum to make sure no Elk smells my human a$$.

I'm going straight NINJA on the ELK next year.

I've only ever used cover scent a handful of times. I know it helps but I just never have spent a lot of time on it. I think its all about were you are hunting.

Wind

Wind direction matters more than anything. If the wind is in you favor you have nothing to worry about, but in Oklahoma the wind can change directions in a minute or less. Elk hunting is no different, In the mountains the wind tunnels making it more difficult to keep track of. Because of this I think it would be important to use scent lock and cover scent. It is also important to keep track of the changing direction of the wind. There are several wind tracking devices on the market, including a scent free powder that blows in the air, showing the wind direction. Good luck and keep hunting!!!!!

I think I've gotten more use out of cover scents using them as pranks than as actual cover scents. My favorite was soaking a sock in Coon Urine, then strategically placing said sock underneath the seat of my uncle's pickup. It's been a war ever since.

Poor guy .... I've left a few treasures behind in my days (dead snakes on floor boards), but never a gift that keeps on giving ..... That's just "dead wrong".....
