I said it probably wouldn't accomplish much

I'll have to read your post more carefully.
Seems like I set you off like a firecracker.
I'm easy.

I said:
1) we're all in favor of gun control--it's just a matter
of where you draw the line.

2) Cities should be able to ban concealed weapons

3) Cities should be able to license guns like cars

4) there are way too many guns in the wrong hands

I stand by all of that. Would any of that done much
for Plaxico Dumbass? No. But I still stand by what I
said.

Exclamation

I’m sorry to disagree with those of you who think that the liberals are not going to try and take away our right to bear arms. One need only look at the statements they have made consistently throughout their individual careers and at the basic fundamental belief system the current liberal base advocates. They as well as the Republicans believe the government knows better how to run your life then you do. The Republicans believe they know how to control your morals and the Democrats believe they know how to your money, your education, your health, and your rights. Guns scare liberals. An armed man or woman is a citizen and can control his or her destiny an unarmed one is a subject and can be told what to do. Liberals believe that the rights of the minority over rule the right of the majority and that if someone objects to killing fuzzy critters then no one should be able to do it. If a person breaks into your home then they have a right to be there and should not expect to get killed or maimed. A law abiding citizen should not be able to protect him or herself on the streets from a person who decides it is easier to steal than it is to work. I’m sorry folks… I believe the second amendment is there to protect the other amendments and if it comes down to it I guess I would rather be judged by 12 Texans than carried by 6 friends. I believe in the rights of the individual as well as the individual responsibility that goes with exercising of those rights. I served three tours in Vietnam and Desert Storm and Shield before I retired honorably from the service defending those rights for everyone. If an individual chooses not to defend themselves so be it but I do not believe the government (specifically a city, count, parish, or state) has the right to circumvent my right given to me by the Constitution of the United States and the blood of the thousands of servicemen and women who have died and were wounded in its defense.

I'll, at least partially, agree to a few points here.
First, yes both sides have their extremists and full-on whackjobs. On one side, you have groups blowing up health clinics that provide abortion, lynching those of other races/lifestyles/religions. On the other side, you have groups blowing up clothing stores that sell real-fur clothing, or turning logging equipment into jumbo-sized car bombs. Furthermore, power hungry f**ks are still power hungry f**ks if they call themselves Liberal, Conservative, or Joe.
Second, yes there is a higher percentage of Liberals that fear guns than Conservatives. My mother is a prime example of this. When I was a kid, I got grounded for 2 weeks because I convinced my dad to buy me a "realistic" looking CO2 BB pistol. I'd had my "lever-action" Red Ryder BB rifle for a while. The reason I got "in trouble" with my mom was because the pistol looked like a "real" gun and a cop might shoot me. The Red Ryder was "OK" because you don't really see many people mugging 7-11's with a "cowboy-style" lever-action rifle. She has some issues with general logic some times.
The third point I'll agree with is that our society in general, on both sides of the isle, are waaay too concerned with trying to protect everybody (and everything). I know there have been several cases won by criminals who injured themselves, by their own actions, breaking into a house and then sued the house owners for "Wrongful Injury". I know there was a case in my semi-local area. A criminal punched out a glass window to break into a house that was owned by somebody on vacation. By breaking the window with his bare hand, he managed to sever an artery in his wrist and had to be hospitalized. He won the case suing the owner for medical bills and "pain and suffering" roughly 10 times the cost of the med bills and/or the value of the crap he could have manged to steal from the house. Who knows how many cases have been won by muggers/burglers/murderers that get shot/stabbed/blugeoned by their law-abiding victims. But I digress. Our society is paralyzed by our need to "protect" everybody/everything. I won't even go over protecting our furry (and tasty) friends of the forest, as we can all pretty much agree on that. Many are compelled to protect "kids" (anybody under the age of 18) from the dangers and sins of the human body in its natural form (nude). Or what about "It's ok for a 'kid' to watch a psychopath rip out somebody's intestines and strangle thier victim with said intestines, but seeing two (or more) people making love will damage them"? What a hypocritical load of ****. Speaking of things we have lost due "protecting" against natural selection, does anybody else remember JARTS?

I totally agree Brian.

Banning Lawn Darts. Why not Clorox? If I drink it, I will die. Anti freeze, and any other readily available chemicals. Car Batteries have acid in them. They should go too! And don't get me started on anything that weighs over 200 pounds! That stuff is dangerous.

More hyperbole from me but where DO you draw the line?

People want to ban cigarettes because they cause cancer. Why? It says right there on the damn box. It practically says, "If you smoke these, YOU WILL DIE". Pretty sure people can make up their mind when armed with that information.

It's the "principle" of the matter...

anyone who thinks Nazi Pelosi isn't going to do everything she can to ban guns has lost it. If we as gun owners don't stand up for our rights against our newly elected liars (my opinion all politicians are liars no matter the party) we are going to lose more and more of our freedoms.

Angry

I’ve never heard so much liberal garbage in my life unless I listen to left radio and them nut cases.
Most of you are talking so much trash; I wonder where your head is?????????
Why would you want to take away the right for canceled carry???????? All the &%#^$ criminals are not carrying them on their hip, most break 7 to 10 laws before they even get out of the door, why not just enforce the laws that are there?????.
If I don’t have my canceled firearm (with a legal carry permit) with me how am I going to protect myself or family call a cop???? (which may take an hour!!!!!)
I would put all of my rant(s) in here at once but I’m sure most of you liberals wouldn’t understand all of it at once and I would have to type my fingers to the bone, so I’ll feed it to you little by little.
OH! And yes a Liberal controlled house, senate and presidency can pass any laws they want (their isn’t enough conservative to even do a filibuster?????? Hmmm!!!!!
I would be willing to bet, If the security guards a Virginia Tech would have been allowed to carry firearms, there would not have had as many deaths> just look what happened at the church were the guard shot the perpetrator before the police showed up or did your new media forget to inform you all of that????
I’m sure I stirred up a hornets nest. But pull you head out of the sand and look at the whole picture. You let Pandora out of her box now I want to see you put her back. Once the laws have been past good or bad we will have to live with them for many many years.
I do agree with one point I as a conservative will stand behind our new President until I see what direction he takes us. I don’t think Socialism is the way I want to go though.
OH! I couldn't have said it better Short Bus

That's probably the thing that gets me the most.

You're not going to take guns out of the hands of criminals. THEY ARE CRIMINALS. They're already breaking the law, what's a weapons charge or two added on? They've probably been to jail before, and they'll probably go again. And they'll get out again too.

Take guns away from law abiding citizens and then see what kind of nightmare you have created. Then any criminal can go into a home KNOWING he's the only one with a gun. They're bold enough to be breaking into people's houses at night. Arm them with a weapon and the knowledge that they're the only one with one and then watch them get really bold. Crime will skyrocket.

The thing is though, the anti gun politicians aren't concerned about those things. They only want to get rid of guns and they don't care how ridiculous it is. Common sense doesn't matter.

Consider the stimulus package the democrats are proposing now. What part of that is stimulus? All I see is wasteful spending on projects like carbon capture research and PORK.

The next four years is just going to be a free for all for Nanci Pelosi and Harry Reid and Chris Dodd, and Diane Feinstein to get all the legislation passed they've wanted to push through in the past but THE PEOPLE did not want.

It's not about what the people want. It's about what they want for us and are going to make sure we get whether we like it or not.

Of course, the Republicans are no different. They just happen to be more RIGHT about most things. When I say "right" I mean in direction and correctness. But they are still all about themselves. Very little common sense legislation ever gets passed.

As long as the American People stand by and let our politicians have their way this country is doomed to failure.

The American People need to take a stand and get these people out of office. The American People need to stand up and call for term limits in Congress. Until we take away the absolute power these congressmen and women hold, we are going to continue to be at their mercy.

Well said

I think you've about covered it, shortbus.

For some real 'rants' try looking at the USAToday blog sometime! Wow! What a bunch of anti-social types

Love your God first, your family next, and your country next---can't go too far wrong that way (at least my opinion).
