You might not want to spend a grand, but you get what you pay for when it comes to auto-loaders. When you say bigger shells, do you mean a 16 or 12 guage or ability to shoot 3-3.5" shells? Also, if you're looking for a reliable semi-auto in fairly good working order and 75% or better, you're not going to find one for under 600 (i.e. browning golds, winchester X's, benelli, berretta).

I meant 3-3.5 inch shells. I didn't say cheap and I don't mind spending 800 or so just didn't want to spend 1000 or more.

Ok then, here's my take. You can save yourself several hundred dollars by foregoing a model capable of shooting 3.5" shells. To be quite honest, unless you're pass shooting geese, cranes, etc. there's really no need. Also, 3.5" ammo is about $5-10 more a box. If you were to look at ballistics charts, the difference in a 3 and 3.5" shell in BB is about 25 pellets. The mis-conception with many hunters is that since they have these 3.5" shells, they can shoot further. This is a load of crap. In the world of steel, speed kills, not more shot. Save your money here and put it to better use gettting a scatter gun capable of 3".
