Shooting Benches

Do any of you guys own shooting benches and / or gun vices? I was just curious what aspects of your vice you like. I'm thinking about buying one for my brothers birthday and just looking for input.

I have a pretty plain shooting bench. Cabelas elite shooting bench. It folds down pretty flat for storage and is heavy enough to avoid too much movement from wind.

My shooting rest is a Caldwell Lead Sled DFT. It moves up/down as well as left/right with precision. I had a cheaper shooting rest but found that bags were just as effective for accuracy (the rest removes the pain of recoil, bags do not).

If your brother is just sighting in rifles occasionally, then I don't think you have to go all out to get the accuracy you need for general hunting purposes. If he's wanting to pop prairie dogs at 1000 yards, I'm not sure you can spend too much money.

I hope this helps.

EDIT: Cabelas, MidwayUSA and other online retailers have all the products you could ever need. Midway has some reviews that can help with the decision process

I've built my own in past but I always get carried away, and althou they're bombproof and solid, they weigh entirely too much to be easily moved. Get the most solid bench you can get, otherwise ricketedy benches only frustrate you and you'll never get exactly dead on or enjoy optimum accuracy. As far as vices,I reccomend you stay away from anything that actually clamps to the rifle-it MAY throw point of impact off, different than handheld due to different forend pressure. get some type of rest that rifle laws solidly in,not having much play.
