georgia fishing

If you contact Georgia DNR at 2123 US hgy. 278 SE,Social Circle, Ga. 30025 they have a great map that list the streams and roads that will get you there.I really like Wildcat Creek, a laurel choked stream that is tough fishing,Smith Creek in Unicoi State Park, has a delayed harvest section , Dukes Creek a catch and release stream that has big smart fish,Tallulah River ,big water, open good fly fishing, a year round stream, Boggs Creek, small water pretty open, and the "Hooch" is big water right in Helen. There are rainbows, browns, and brook trout which are in small tribs. Also the fishing laws booklet lists the streams by county. Hope this helps. I have a friend that has a rental house in Helen that we use on our trips there.

I prefer smaller water. I typically like to fish with my 3 or 4 wt. Free stone, tail water and secluded back country would be great. I'd love to hike in and perhaps have to camp. Scenery, quality, tranquility. Big hatches, minor hatches. I like to fish drys unless I have to switch to wets/nymphs. Sometimes bass, but almost exclusively trout (particularly brookies). Obviously browns and bows are nice, but I've yet to hook a cutthroat and one day I hope to meet other, rarer species especially a golden trout.
Any size. 10 inch, but 14-18 I prefer. Larger are nice on occasion.
Basically a beautiful dry fly river, with beautiful trout where I can enjoy a dram of scotch and a mellow cigar.

Try North Georgia Trout Online, NGTO, good resource for information and leads great group of guys that will go out of their way to help you with questions etc. I live in Florida but go on there quite often since I fish out of the Norcross area where my buddy has a 2nd home. There is a Orvis store in Norcross, and the guys in there are also great to work with and will point you in the right direction.
