Fishing waters in GA

Hey guys,

I'm a flyfisherman living in NY, but I'll soon be moving to Athens, GA. Anyone here from that area? I could use some suggestions about where to fish.

I have a good buddy who lives close to Athens and my company has a nurse working in Athens. I'll ask my friend. He lives right on a lake around there somewhere and is always telling me about the fishing there.

Hey grashopr - I do a lot of fly fishing too but these days it's all saltwater. While I lived in GA for a few years, I never did try out the trout streams there. North GA has some pretty good ones I'm told so I think you'll find some good places to go. Here's a link to a GA forum that might be a good resource for you. Good Luck!

Actually, Georgia offers fishing for rainbow, brook and brown trout (but it also has cutthroat and lake trout, you just can't fish for them). Brown trout are considered the most difficult to catch and brookies are the easiest, rainbows are inbetween. The state record brook trout came from Waters Creek, the Chattahoochee River yielded the state record brown trout and the state record rainbow trout was caught from the Soque River.

Thumbs up Georgia fishing

There is some great fishing in Georgia! Check the North Georgia Trout Online site ,lots of good information. I've fished NW georgia for the past 15 years, sort of an annual getaway. I can give you a list of favorites if you like. Most are north of Athens ,probably an hour or so. Check a map and locate Helen, Ga. a great jumping off place right on the Chattahooche River, with tons of water to fish. You will find anything from brush choked streams to wide open flyfishing meccas. Good luck to you.

A Fishing Mecca?!? Holy Cr@p!

Now I'm ready to get out there!

A list, if you have it handy, would be great.

Perhaps we can "hook-up" to wet a line some time?

Thanks.

I have lived in GA for 20 plus years and fished most of GA TN and NC ......... great river and creek trout fishing and great small mouth river fishing as well as great pond warm water fishing............ you will love it. As to details, NGTO as mentioned will be a great start and if youw ill share what type fishing you like best, free stone river, tailwater, lake, pond or small back country stream and what you are after, scenery, quantity , size or type fish (say brookies)........ i can possibly help you find some locations that would match.
