| Alaska Fishing Advice I'll be attending a conference in Anchorage the last week of August and I'm planning on taking at least three days to fish before or after the conference. I really have very little interest in the typical combat fisheries for salmon I've seen from pictures of the Kenai in summer, nor am I interested in boats, guides, or giant halibut. Money is somewhat of an issue. Ideally, I'd like to find some place within a few driving hours of Anchorage where I could fish for rainbows and/or grayling. I've never been to Alaska before so this is kind of a tough nut to crack, and I really haven't done much research yet because I just found out yesterday that I was going. So far, I've uncovered a bit of evidence of a good fishery for steelhead-sized rainbows either above or below Skilak Lake (can't remember which) so it's starting to look like a drive to the Kenai in a rented car. But I'm curious if there are any decent fisheries closer to Anchorage. I would appreciate any suggestions you guys may have. Thank you, Braden |
