| fisheries crisis Please watch Ray Hilborn's discussion of fisheries crisis on KCTS and U of W, I think it's titled "Re-interpreting fisheries crisis" I disagree with the thought a fishery depleted to 30% of natural stocks achieves Maximum Sustained Yield. Prof. Hilborn goes on to show areas of success and one of the areas we are familiar with is Bristol Bay. Two things have made it successful. Limited Entry, thus reducing human predation And the ADF&G requiring escapement before harvest. Watch the show, I think depleting natural stocks down to 30% of natural stocks makes tehm to venerable to other conditions, such as floods. Please join in the discussion. Thanks Quinn |
