| Fished the Stilly's NF this morning. A little bit past dawn up at Hazel, and it was warm enough for just a shirt. Started out waking Waller wakers on the way upstream, couldn't get them to wake right think I put the wings up too high, but they did float like corks. Got up to the second manufactured logjam and decided to switch to a sink tip. Didn't have any steelhead flies other than some wakers and steelhead bees but I did have some size 6 and 8 cut flies tried a size 8 orange spider. That was the ticket to multiple hookups on the smolts. Brought 6 to hand lost more at rod's length, and lots of hits. The river looked good clear and not too low yet, but still on the chilly side. Only saw four other anglers up there, two went past me and I suppose went up and fished the big slide hole above me, don't know how they did. On the way down I fished every spot that looked like it might hold a fish. Down at the deep hole by the road a man and woman where fishing the tail end of that hole. From what I could see from up on the high bank the only fish in there were some nice size suckers. I suppose fishing caddis nymphs sunk deep would work on them. Fished and worked my way down river for another quarter mile or so and didn't hit anything kept' more cut and steelhead smolts. Saw some markers that located redds, observed a nice blacktail doe on the bar By now it was hot and I was tired from casting with a 9 foot bamboo with the auto reel and a bit hungry, packed it in about 11:30. Thanks Kyler |
