Taking the girls perch fishing today...

This will be our first fishing trip of the year and well, pretty much our first ever fishing trip.

They've both been fishing before, but today it's just daddy and the girls heading over to the community pond to catch some fish.

I went to Wal Mart today and bought Riley (she'll be 5 in May) a new fishing pole. She has another little one somewhere but I couldn't find it. I think I left it on the boat.

Madison (8) has a Zebco 33 that she's never used so we're hopefully going to break it in today.

I rigged up their poles and my light weight spinning combo with small size 12 swivels, six inch leadered number four hooks (I think) and small plastic bobbers about 12 inches above the swivel.

I bought some gulp crappie nuggets or whatever you want to call them and some gulp worms. Man those things are nasty.

Hopefully, we'll go out and catch a bunch of perch (bluegill/sunfish) and maybe some crappie and they'll enjoy it enough to want to go again.

I don't care what they catch as long as they catch something. When I was a grade school kid oucorry and drakehunter and I would go fishing just about every day in the summer and we couldn't help but catch a hundred perch even if we didn't want to. Hopefully, this little pond will produce similar results.

I rode my bike over there yesterday to check it out and it was nice and clean and the grass was mowed so there shouldn't be any problems with the girls not being happy with their surroundings.

I'm gonna take the camera and hopefully I'll be able to report back later with some pictures! I'm not sure Riley has actually ever even caught a fish by herself, so this should be her first!

Good luck Coop I hope the girls enjoy it. I took my two a couple of times and they really liked it. It is a lot better when they catch something.

Well we're back already after about an hour and fifteen minutes of fishing.

The girls both caught catfish at the same time which got them pretty excited.
They also caught one perch, and at the very end Riley caught a tiny little crappie.

It was pretty fun watching them reel in those catfish!

I've got pictures, but I gotta figure out who to get them off the camera I used.

Good job on getting the girls out Coop. The most important aspect when introducing a child to any new outdoor adventure is to make sure they have fun doing it. If possible, make sure a successful outing is planned ahead. Make a point to do a little scouting for a place that has the potential to pay off. There's no easier way to get a child excited about fishing than getting them into a bunch of fish on their first outing.

post those pics, just plug your phone into the computer and it will pull a program that will take the pics off the camera.

The pics are on my sony camera. It's supposed to have a usb port, that's why I bought it, but there isn't one. It even said it on the box.
