Colorado High Country Cutthroats

I hope everyone's having a great summer of fishing. I've been out too many times to count. I mainly have been walleye fishing our local reservoirs for walleye with great success. Runoff is finally beginning to slow down, so it's time to get the fly rod working. I recently embarked on a journey into the Colorado Backcountry hunting for the beautiful green back cutthroat trout. A couple of us set out into a remote section of Rocky Mountain National Park called Loch Vale. This moderate 8 mile hike is well worth the trouble. The lake is beautiful and fish are plentiful. The water is so damn cold, you can hardly stand in it for more than 15-20 minutes (with waders on). We were site fishing to hundreds of greenbacks which were congregating at the inlet in pre-spawn conditions. These dudes were tight lipped until we identified what they were feeding on (size 22 black thread midge with white bead head). Attached are a few photos for your enjoyment.
