Planning A Fishing Trip

I got to thinking about my last few fishing trips. My wife set up a tour someplace and I get on the computer to see if there is any fishing available where we're going. I've been lucky most of the time. But the chances are that we won't be visiting a place during the "Prime Fishing Time".

Take here in Hawaii for instance. No one plans a fishing trip to Hawaii to fish for peacock bass. Our best fishing is during summer and fall. Although we have had great catches in all months of the year. Recent rains and cold weather in Dec. and early Jan. has made for some very slow fishing. But.... if the only time you can go is now... you go and hope for the best.

If you're planning a fishing vacation.... you can do your research and go during the prime fishing season. Alaska fishing lodges have little charts showing the best time for the species of fish your after. You can also contact a lodge and tell them the kind of fishing you would like to try and ask for their recommendation. Ask questions of people who have been there.

Most fly shops organize guided trips to popular fishing destinations. When you Mainland guys are hip deep in snow, we see a lot of anglers passing through Honolulu on their way to the warm tropical bonefish flats of Christmas Island.

I'll still take my chances and try fishing when and where I can while on one of my wife's vacation tours.... But given half a chance I get on my computer, do my homework, and plan that fishing trip of a lifetime so the odds of good weather and catching fish are in my favor.

Aloha,
Stan

I just got home from a vacation in the Bahamas. We knew heading home we were going to be stuck in Atlanta, Georgia for at least 36 hours. I started looking on the internet to plan a one day fishing trip but had no luck. I basically was just trying to figure out what species would be best, what lake was closest, and what type of guide I could get. I ended up just giving up on it after a couple of hours of looking, but it would have been the perfect activity on a day when we did nothing but sit around in a hotel room.

Wow, wish I had been with you..... I went to Google and then Ityped in "fishing in Atlanta ga".....

My first hit, River Through Atlanta, got me 8 fishing guides. I would like to try that smallmouth bass action in down town Atlanta.
There was also trout.

On 2 trips I just walked into a local fishing supply store and they had several guides they could recomend.

Keep trying....
your right, what is there besides hunting and fishing?
LOL

I'm sure I could have probably worked something out but when I was looking I was not exactly sure if we were going to be on stand by the next day or just fly out the following day. It was late when we got in and I figured my best bet would be Lake Lanier and Striper fishing but I didn't know if it would be worth the hassle to find a guide on such short notice, literally the night before. It was only about 20 miles from the Hotel but we're talking catching a cab there and back and leaving the ladies, etc.

We probably should have just nutted up and went for it.

When I first read that the hotel was 20 miles away and you were taking a cab.... I was thinking "that is going to be expensive." But then I read that your going fishing and the girls were going shopping.... Shopping,?? Now THAT is going to be EXPENSIVE.

LOL LOL LOL
