Typically most all lures will outfish Birdman!! So I have many favorites
For big trout I prefer Rogues, and Rapalas. For walleyes, crawdad crankbait or trusty old wedding ring.

The one I had (spinnerbait), had a brown/black skirt, brown head, and I believe a tandem colorado/willowleaf blades. EASILY the best spinner I ever had (line broke on me). Haven't been able to find another. However, I'm seriously considering just buying components and making my own spinners, plus that way I'd be able to adjust them on the fly (switch skirts, blades, etc.).

i like the lipless cranks, such as the strike king red eye lipless, it has more vibration than the other leading brands. i mostly use theses as search baits then when i find a pod of fish, ill slow down and use soft plastics. also there is nothing that can compare to a top water bite in the early stillness of the morning , with a little fog on the water. all you hear is your top water bait coming across the water, maybe a bird chirpping in the background, then BAM, a huge explosion on your defenceless top water bait as it vanishes from your site................there is nothing like that rush........don

Franklin Batting Glove

My favorite is a franklin batting glove with the fingers cut out so you have more feel with your fingertips. Live shadd work well for almost every fish in the lake!! If they are hard to find use small live perch, I have caught everything from walleye to flatthead using them.

Franklin batting glove (LMAO )... Do you find the Franklin's more appealing than others?

Don, I agree on the topwater. Nothing quite as fun as seeing a big ol fish blow up your bait. I'm a big fan of the original Hula Popper in black or frog pattern. The hard jerk baits or spooks are a blast to fish as well. Don, which frog do you prefer (manufacturer)?

birdman, i tend to go with the spro pro bronzeye frog as my first choice, only because they are pretty well balanced so when you cast them they always land upright. there legs give off great action. i use a midnight walker ,and rain forest black. your frogs are better seen in dark colors when bass are looking up. my second choice would have to be the bigfoot frog soft baits, they have huge feet and they float, so you can leave it in the strike zone longer. i also like its action. try these frogs in a lily pad area, pull the frog onto a nice pad, let it set a second or two then hop it off, two quick small tougs, and let it set again. but hang on............hope this helps...don

birdman, let me know how you do with these frog topwater baits on the smallmouth, i have never caught a smallmouth before, only largemouth, and spots. i guess ill have to go up to smith mountain lake to give them a try. all i know is when a 7lb large comes a foot out of the water to attack this frog, it reminds you of jaws. best of luck..........don
