favorite tourn. memory

fished a team tourn. at eufaula with my son corry. my daughter-in-law didnt understand the whole fishing thing, i had told her that if corry and i pre-fished we would win and have big bass, well she went for it. tourn. day we drew the bull horn (which means you take off last) in the smallest boat in the field. we went about a mile and the boat died, so we just started fishing. we put 3 keepers in the livewell pretty quick. 1 was a nice female another was a small male, after a little while it went belly up but was still breathing we decided it was lovesick for the female so we put them together, sure enough he turned right side up and was fine. i lifted the back deck lid and saw that the gas tank vent cap was closed, so that fixed the motor problem. as the day went by we couldnt catch another keeper, with about 20minutes left we had time for 1 more spot on the way in. well corry caught 1 as i was trying to get a crankbait rod out from under a dozen other rods. then i caught # 5. we got to weighin with about a minute to spare. another problem arose, corry's big bass and mine looked the same size so out came the balance beam, mine barely weighed more so we went with it for big bass. we won and had big bass ! for a day that had so many mishaps it sure turned out good.
thanks to my daughter-in-law julie for putting up with me. and thanks to my son corry for another great memory

that's a pretty good day when you can win the tournament and big bass, especially when you both have one big enough you can't decide which one is bigger.

Fishing that lake has to be tough, as big as it is. I wouldn't know where to start.

Why do you say you had the smallest boat in the field? Don't you guys have a 21 foot boat?

Mine has to be tourney we won at Murray. Me and Dad(gobigred) went down the day before and it was about 40 degrees. We fished for about 3 or 4 hours never got a bite, so on the way back to the hotel we were trying to decide whether or not to even fish the next day. For some reason we decided to fish. So we get up the next morning it was in the low 30's with freezing rain, mist. We take off and run about 7 or 8 minutes to our first spot and i told dad to run the trolling motor because i could not feel my fingers, i mean i couldn't even hold my rod and reel. About the 2 cast dad said "i got one" i havent even stood up yet. We get that one in the boat and by then my hearts pumpin. So we go down a little futher and i'm throwing this god awful fried green tomato crankbait that i have seen before, and i feel one just suck it in, the fight was on it jumped and saw how big it was and that it was a smallie. I 'm thinkin oh great big smallmouth jumping and on crankbait. it seems like i fought this thing forever i just remember tellin dad "get it in the net, get it in the net" finally get it in and I go Mike Icanolli on its ass. I'm yelling like i just won the bass masters or something. then i realized it was our second fish and now we just gave away our spot. So then we go about an hour and half without a bite. We pull up to one little point and i think i catch two smallies about 2 pounds apiece. So now we got 4 fish 1 short of our limit. We fish a little bit and dad catche another black about 13 inches, good we have our limit with a pretty good kicker. We start fishing again and i'm still throwing this fried green tomato, and i hook into another good fish it jumps and i'm going crazy again, finally get it in probably another 3 and half four pound fish. So now its about 3 hours till weigh in and we are freakin out because we have a real good sack of fish especially for that lake. Now i got thoughts of our boat breaking down and not making it back to weighin. So we pull the trolling motor and head closer to weighin ramp. We weigh in like the first or second people to weigh in. Now i have to sit and watch 70 some odd other teams weigh in. It seem like 4 hours. We end up winning it with 14.30 lbs. with i think a 4.70 smallie. I'll try to post the pics on here sometime
