a true story

i keep a faded sheet of typing paper taped inside my closet door. my son typed this on 4-14-92 in typing class in 10th grade. the teacher was so touched she gave it to another teacher (my mother-in-law) and she gave it to me. the following really did happen i think Corry was about 3 years old at the time

A CHILDHOOD MEMORY

One day me and my dad got up to go fishing. I was so excited. When we got to the pond my dad always carried me, because I was to little to get through the tall weeds. When we got to the pond he would always get me my bait on the hook and get me set down so I could fish. Everytime I got hung up he would stop what he was doing and get me undone. sometimes I know he would get very frustrated at me, but he would never show his frustration. I always wanted to fish just like him and be like him. Then when we got through he would always carry me back on his shoulders. One day I finally noticed that he was sweating, so I said "Daddy your sweatin" and he said "it,s because I,m carring you" then I told him, Daddy, when I get big and you get small, I,ll carry you." He just laughed and went on.
Although that day has never come yet when i would be bigger than him, I would still would try to carry him today.

I get this faded old paper out from time to time and read it, i cant explain how it touches my heart. we still fish together 27 some odd years later and sometimes i still carry him lol!
but not to often

take your kids fishing!

That's a pretty awesome story.

I have to say though, I think he IS bigger than you now, and I know I'd love to get a shot of him trying to carry you!

We could video it and put it up on youtube. Man you guys would be famous.

I kinda feel the same way with my dad and going to ball games. We've been going to osu games together for as long as I can remember.

Touching Story

As a father it's easy to understand how touching the story is. As me it was my grandfather who took my brothers and me fishing. I still visit him time to time and will never forget the times we spent in the outdoors together. My father wasn't much of an outdoors man. He was a wonderful father making it to all of our sporting events and helping coach as much as possible. Sometimes I wish I could just go back to those days and just be a kid again. Thanks Randy for helping me realize how good of a childhood I really had. I only hope I have the courage to be as good a parent as you and my father were to us.

Today's lesson is in tense, as in the present tense. Dad is still alive bro! I know you haven't seen him in a couple of months but let's try not to bury him already okay!!! ISN'T and IS.

as a child

As a child he wasn't and outdoors man. and still isn't unless you count golf!!! I'm well aware of the fact he is still with us I talked to him a couple of days ago. As a kid i don't remember him ever taking me hunting or fishing!! Truth be told he doesn't even own a gun. Does this make him less of a man or father? No, I wouldn't trade him for jimmy Houston or Jackie Bushman any day of the year. All I was saying is that he wasn't much of an outdoors man while I was growing up.
