Should albino animals be protected?

This is an interesting question. I think my first reaction to seeing an albino while hunting would be how fun it would be to have on my wall but I know there is some other points of view.

I don't think so, but I'm not really educated on the topic of albino game animals in the wild.

I would think that an albino animal would be more likely to fall to predation than a non albino animal of the same species so it seems unlikely that protecting it would really do it much benefit. Some might say that is all the more reason to protect them.

I guess I'm of the opinion that they are rare enough it's irresponsible to waste time legislating their protection when there are tons of more important things this country should be worrying about. Like how can we waste more tax payers dollars while convincing them that it's necessary that we increase their taxes at the same time. (sorry for the thread hijack there)

It would be pretty cool to have an albino species mounted in your trophy room I guess, especially if it was a legitimate trophy.

Yum

I suppose they should be protected until there are enough of them to hunt. After all, I have caught, slaughtered, and eaten albino trout and they were more delicious than your satndard run of the mill trout. So I would think that other albino animals would be more tasty also.

OOPS-I read it wrong and posted vote for protected instead of hunted. Of course they should be hunted.

I'd have to go with hunt them, it is a genetic anomaly, and (more than likely) not beneficial to the species.

I think they should be protected, because now the poll is even. 3 to 3

Shortbus already nailed my main point that they are ill suited for survival in the wild. If they should be protected, what should they be protected from? A handful of people with scoped high-powered rifles or a crap load of mountain lions? I say we should tranq a few from the wild and try to breed more.

I agree, no reason to protect a genetic mutation.

It's sort of considered a sense of duty here with turkeys. A white one in the flock exposes the whole flock to greater danger from ALL forms of predation. I feel pretty much the same about deer. I would offer no special protection to Albino deer. A 'true' white deer (not albino) is so rare that I might tend to view them differently. One distinction being: many albino's are not completely healthy while the white mutation usually is (to my understanding).

In my opinion and considering the question as written ... not by law. Individually, I would respect the decision of each of you if the kill were legal.
