I went with my brother and his friend Danny.

It was cold and really windy.

We didn't call anything in, and we didn't see any coyotes, but we did stumble upon two Bobcats and we bagged both of them.

They were in a tournament last weekend and called in and killed two bobcats, but they only counted coyotes for the tournament so they didn't place. I think he said the winning team killed five coyotes.

Speaking of bobcats, my little brother Drew shot one out at our farm this year. The thing was huge. He took it to the local taxidermist to get mounted where he found out just how nice of a cat it really was. The largest body mount the taxidermist could order was 38 inches from nose to tail. My brothers was 37 inches. He's getting it mounted in a crouch/pounce position.

You want a good varmit shoot (i.e. prarie dogs) come to Boulder, Co. Those damn things are everywhere. Must be the only place in America where the city actually relocates them to prevent deaths. And what a site to see. They basically use an industrial size vaccum to suck them out of their holes.

terrible

The hunting has been horrible. Iv'e been several weekends in a row and have not called in one dog yet. One game warden said that everyone he had talked to has had the same problem. Last weekend My best friend (Danny) and I hunted in a calling competition. We hunted all day, from 5:30 to after dark and called in one bob cat, and had one be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have the pics on a portable camera, as soon as they get developed i will scan them and post them. Also I have the pics from the weekend before, ( hunting with Danny and Aaron) i am still fighting with the ability to post them. As soon as I get it figured out I will post those pics with the stories.

I've heard predator population is primarily based on two criteria: 1) a healthy rabbit population, and 2) mange free packs. Several years ago in our area, coyotes were all but a rarity due to a declining rabbit population (drought year) and mange. Since then, above normal precipitation and an above average rabbit population have restored coyote numbers to better than average. Any idea if mange or a decline in their staple food has occured?
