Picture of Wild Boar

Sunday morning I walked into a bottom before daylight. At first light I climbed a tree. About 15 minutes later, I hear some wild pigs carrying on. I'm wearing my walker's game ear, so hear them from quite a ways off. They eventually make there way in my direction. They were four boars. Two were big with good sized tusks. The others were just yearlings around 70 or 80 pounds each. I picked the smallest of the bunch because I was looking for meat and I hear the big ones taste rank. I ate the front shoulder last night. Cooked on the grill smothered in barbecue sauce. Delicious!!! Meat in the freezer makes me happy!!!

You definitely picked the right one but you should have shot all four of them.

As small as your deer property is, I'd be getting rid of those damn pigs!

The smaller ones definitely taste better. If you've ever eaten a really big wild boar you know how tuff and gamey they are.

I've always wondered about buying a walker's game ear, if it makes that much difference or not...

The walker's game ear is definitely a good investment. You can get a knock off brand at Academy for $60 bucks. I shot the pig and deer in southern Oklahoma on public land, not the farm. I haven't seen any at the farm.

I saw that you were hunting public land when I read the deer thread but it was after I'd posted in this one.

Did you process those yourself?

Yeah, I butchered both in deer camp. I also fleshed out the buck and have him in a tanning solution now. My plan is to use his cape to mount a big rack I couldn't afford to do a few years ago. It may look interesting with a big rack on a yearling skin or it may look even bigger? Should be fun trying.

What did you shoot it with? I would love to do a pig hunt down here in Texas.
