Feral Pigs

Anyone ever got the chance to pop some? I have a couple times, and let me tell you it is fun! The second time I had a lone boar come up and took him (after a long trail). The first time took the cake, we were watching a draw when we heard a loud ruckus off in the distance and soon figured out its was the pigs, (a group of probably 30 of them that we could hear maybe a quarter mile away coming right for us). When they got about thirty yards we opened up. My dad dropped his first with a head shot. I shot shortly after knocking a sow on to her side (though she got up and ran like nothing happened, and we never found her.) Then we just opened up trying to wound several (that was the stipulation from the farmer whose land we were hunting.)

If you haven't seen one of these things in person they are quite a site. I've seen some personally that were probably over 500 lbs. A boar I took a couple of years ago dressed around 250, and his hide in some places was AT LEAST and inch thick!

Any one have any stories?

i've shot a few pigs around the weatherford area with my brother. We were hunting on the river on four wheelers and would cruise around, stop, and try to call them in. If you've never heard a pig call, i would rank it about 10x's as annoying as a predator call. It's supposed to sound like a piglet in disress. We called several in on us and shot 2 (1 - 210lbs sow and a nice eating yearling that followed). My second experience was much more fun. We hunted at night on a platform stand (windmill tower) with a game feeder underneath. The tower was located on the edge of a peanut field with draws leading down to it. We sat on the stand until said pigs found their way out of the draws and to their night time feeding spot. Once about 20 of them were happily around the feeder, we flipped on two spotlights and started blazin away. We put 3 on the ground and the farmer couldn't have been any happier...

pigs

I have not yet had a chance to do this but am looking forward to it! I have a friend and old coworker that has killed several and has been begging me to go. Why I haven't gone, I'm not sure. I have seen pictures of the ones he has taken. All of them have been small except for one large sow. They were infested with ticks, worse than I have ever seen anything. He shot them in south Eastern Oklahoma, are the pigs everywhere infested like this? I think they had lots of ticks do to the summer time but I;m not sure. I look forward to going and will keep everyone updated with it.

Deadeye,

East of weatherford on the Cimmaron river I believe was where we were riding the wheelers. The feeder was out of the river bottom several miles away...

I've been a couple times and it is a blast. We sat on a wheat field one nite and 50 or 60 pigs came out. They were everywhere and all different sizes.

Me and my buddy had to double up on one big boar. This thing was huge!! We guessed at over 500 lbs. It took four of us to load it in the back of the truck. I have a picture somewhere i will try to find it.

typo

Sorry about the typing error, my typing is worse than my penmanship, and that is pretty bad. I have my web man working on the spell check, I think it will be done soon.
