LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (AP) -- State wildlife officials say a Bay County man accidentally shot and killed his friend while deer hunting in the Florida Panhandle.

It's the first fatal hunting accident in the state this year.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Matthew Curenton and Matthew Riley were both wearing orange hunting caps, but couldn't see each other through the rain and haze that blanketed the private property in Calhoun County where they were hunting last weekend.

Officials say Riley shot at a deer that stopped in a road between the two men. Curenton was shot in the chest. Riley performed CPR until emergency workers arrived. Curenton was pronounced dead at a hospital.
