Not much of an ice fisherman

I hope you guys can tell me some good ice fishing stories. I've only been one time. I was in Wisconsin with a friend and his dad cut the holes and put pop up flags down. We just sat in his cabin all day and looked out the window every once in awhile. We caught nothing. I would be willing to bet its better than that with you guys.

I's say I enjoy catching lakers more than anything. There's a reservoir just above Boulder called Gross that has a healthy population of Macks (aka lake trout). Like most Colorado mountain reservoirs, it's very deep. Nothing quite like jigging for trout in 100 FOW!! Hook into a fish and it takes about 10 minutes to reel that thing in. Only downfall is when you miss a hookup and have to check your bait. Talk about wearing yourself out ....

I'll chase just about anything that'll bite in the winter. I prefer Big Gills, crappie, and walleye but once in awhile i'll run some tip-ups for Pike. I hope to be on some ice this weekend. As for stories, I got a few.

About 7 yrs ago, the wife and I were in KS fishing a lake from some docks. While at the dock, I keep hearing someone yelling but coulldn't figure out what or where it was coming from. The ice wasn't even close to be safe yet and when we finally figured out where the yelling was coming from, we drove around over to the boat ramp to find a guy had fallen through the ice. It took us about 10 minutes to get him out safely. He was holding himself up with a double-bladed knife and it had cut 2 of his fingers almost off. He was so cold that he wasn't even bleeding. One of the guys had extra clothes so we got him in something dry and then took him to the hospital. He had to have a few surgeries to repair it but is now fine.

I will share more stories later.
