well we decided to pay only 2 places since we didn't have over 20 teams. Dang if we didn't get 3rd. lol We shot 1 dog and 2 cats, but won big cat by 1oz. We had brian doty, from extreme outdoor aventure tv be one of the judges for us and he helped out when our small problem occured. Well the first place team had a little problem with the poly test. I don't want to get into it too much, but there were some things that the contestant was doing that the poly guy warned him not to do. well he did it anyways and so the poly guy failed him. Now it wasn't that he cheated and we didn't think so, but the poly guy failed him for it. This is where it sucked cause if we failed him, it would move 2nd to 1st and us into 2nd. NOW what would that look like? So what we did, is had a vote between us and the teams there.... Option 1: We fail them(team in question) and they go home with no money. Option 2: We take 150 out of the 1st place pot, and have the same guy retake the test. (see we were paying for the poly test out of our own pocket, so giving another test was going to cost us an extra 150) Everybody agreed on option 2 and the guy retook the test and passed it. Can't believe this had to happen on our first tournament to host and we would be the ones having to benefit from a failed poly. Now the first place team was from midland, and we didn't think that they cheated, granted because we have hunted against them in grahmn and abliene and seen them bring animals back and pass the poly. However next time we have a hunt, we will specify in the rules that if the contestant does not pass the test FOR ANY REASON, we will fail them. Lucky all the teams there were understanding of the situation, and all agreed on the thing to do. Do you guys think we did the right thing? The poly guy has been testing grahmn's contest for 20 years and he thought so but also said that over the last few years, that they would have failed that team no questions asked.

I think you did the right thing. If it was me in your situation I probably would have just let them win without the second poly and made sure next time to include the new rules like you have with the failed test for any reason as cause for disqualification.

If you had DQ'd them and put yourself in second, even if they flat out cheated, it would still look bad. You were in a tough spot there and it was a no win situation for you guys.

I'm glad to hear it worked out for you at least in terms of getting through it without creating problems.

Yeah, I think next time we might not hunt our own tournament. But its hard when you see all the other teams headed out to hunt, and ya gotta stay home... lol oh well, most teams that came back wanted us to do another this year, but i dunno. We will have another next year though!
