A great hook to use anytime for crappie are the Tru-Turn red hooks. That is all I use and the little bend that is in the shaft of the hook seems to really help me get a better hook-up ratio. I like to use #4 or #6 hooks. I make all my own crappie jigs and jigheads and there I use #4 mustad jig hooks. I like the Mustads because they seem to be a little lighter wire hook and when I get snagged, most of the time I can get my jig back. I just bend the hook back into shape.
If you fish alot of brush, try the Laker hook guards. These are a rubber guard that goes around the collar of your jig, put your plastic body on, then hook the other end on your hook. I use a ton of these and they work AWESOME!
