Nitro Shells Should Be Outlawed...

At least that's what many "ex-gobbling" birds would say. Started spring season with 4 ea. Nitro #5 nickel-plated 3 1/2" loads. Only have one left so it was time to purchase more. Decided to buy a box of 4CuX5CuX7Hevi. Retighten my red-dot with other loads then shot one Nitro at 40 yds. Then one at 50 yds. At life-size turkey targets. I've never seen results like this in many years of patterning. On the 11X17 50 yd. paper you couldn't fit a robin in there. Devastating. I'll jump out on a limb and say that, regardless of what factory load you shoot, these will be significantly better. (Oh...for those concerned, I forgot to put in the disclaimer re: 50 yd. shots!)

Thanks
chloe

All the reviews I've read on Remington's Nitro Turkey loads have been really positive. I've never used the nitro turkey shells but from what I gather they perform as well or better than other loads that cost more. The grouping of the shells is as good or better than other loads but at long range it sounds like there is a bit of leak in the pattern.

I personally see no need for expensive shells. Buy a good choke and shoot 4's or 6's in 3 or 3.5". Your pattern will be tight enough unless your throwing a hail mary at em'.

Come on. You wouldn't even shell out a few extra bucks for some Lemon Pepper shot.

I have to admit I got caught up in all the hype surrounding Nitro Shells and Rhino Choke Tubes. I used them for 3-4 Years and killed many Gobblers using this combination. I always wondered if there was a combo that would allow the use of Factory Shotshells that would perform up to or even exceed the performance that I was getting using the Nitro Shotshells and Rhino Choke Tube. After being intoduce to Rob Roberts of Gobbler Guns last year and having him work on my Turkeys Shotguns, I am convinced that there is a better, less expensive alternative to using Nitor Shells and Rhino Choke Tubes. I can now use Winchester Extended Range Shells and the Gobbler Guns Choke to achieve results that I think are better than my previous combination. I am posting the patterning targets from both of my Turkey Shotguns so that you can see what I am talking about:

I've tried a couple of the other turkey loads, and although they were pretty good, they did not pattern as well as my Nitro loads. Yes, they be a little bit more expensive, but what is piece of mind worth when you have possibly been working for 1/2 hour or more to get a gobbler in range. I want to know when I pull the trigger I have the best opportunity without me choking, and blowing the shot!!!!!

I agree with Birdman. Ive killed turkeys with 2 3/4" num. 6 shot and full choke. I'm not recommending this, but if you can call well, you dont need big shoulder pounding shells. IMO
