Description:

Texoma Sportfishing is a loose association of very experienced guides who are committed to the sport of striper fishing. We prefer to fish with lures and light tackle. We prefer to teach the art of lure fishing to those that accept the challenge. We are dedicated to the conservation of the lake and of the fish in it, and encourage catch-and-release for the best of our brood stock.
Your Host...
I am Mark Macnamara. I began fishing Texoma in 1980 and learned to fish the lake with one of the original oldtimers, Cracker Shelby, who’s been gone for a few years now. We fished with nothing but lures then, and I’ve kept at it since. I’ve been tournament fishing on the TSA and NSBA trails for the past two seasons with tournament partner Jeff (JD) Lyle. We’ve led in the points race both seasons, and qualified for, and fished in the Regional Championships in Arkansas and the National Invitationals at Lake Lanier, Georgia in 2003, and Cherokee Lake, Tennessee in 2004. During the 2004 season, Jeff and I regrouped as Team Mercenary and joined the Polar Boats team, to see if we could get the captain, Bonita Staples the national crown for Lady Angler of the Year. After leading the race all season, we finished second in the nation when a Kansas angler pulled off a last-minute win. We were also second in the standings for the Texas State TSA title. We brought home a 22’ Center Console flats boat from the 2004 NSBA Nationals in Tennessee.
I’ve done my share of baitfishing, and still do if that’s what you want, but I really prefer to fish with topwater lures, jigs, and slabs. I limit my trips because I don’t fish five or six days a week anymore.
We often team up to fish larger groups, so if you’ve got folks that want to come up together, give me a call, and we can work out the details. We can easily accomodate groups of 20 or more.

We had a great time on this trip. The weather wasn't completely cooperative, but we did well despite the wind gusts up to probably 30 mph.
We met up at 6am and headed out. We started the morning fishing topwaters and had some success despite heavy boat traffic.
We then went to live bait (threadfin shad) and anchored above schooling striper. This was fairly successful and the action was pretty quick and then it would die and we'd move.
Later we drifted flats and were very successful despite the wind drifting us really fast. We had to give up due to the high winds beating us down but we easily caught our limit and turned back a number of fish prior to, as well as catching a handful of sandbass and one black bass.
I would highly recommend Mark as your Striper guide on Lake Texoma. He was professional, knowledgable, and friendly. He also was happy to share instruction and was patient with us on our first striper experience.
The equipment we used was fine. We started out casting top waters with spinning gear and then switched to heavier open faced reels and equipment for drifting.
The boat motor had minor issues in reverse, making a clicking noise but it was not an issue. The boat itself was just fine. It wasn't the nicest, newest, fanciest boat on the lake, however that was not a concern of ours. We just wanted to catch fish and we did.
One thing that sets Mark apart is the fact that he won't send you on your way once you have your limit of striper like many guides will do. A lot of services will cut the trip short as soon as you catch your limit but he will fish you until your trip is up. That's a big deal because a lot of times you might limit out in the first hour or two.
We also met two of his partners and they were both enjoyable to be around. His main partner JD has a big time boat that can fish up to TEN PEOPLE.
They also have a no catch no pay guarantee AND kids under 12 fish free with a paying adult.
Give them a shot if you're looking for a Texoma Striper Guide and tell them I sent you! You won't be disappointed.
Mark is a smoker, if you have issue with that. Didn't bother us, other than the fact that it made me want both a beer and a cigarette!
(EDIT: adding something)
We just booked another trip with Mark on the 26th and 27th of this month and are looking forward to another fun trip!
