Open Country Adventures is a sporting retreat for hunters and sportsmen, offering a wide variety of hunting packages. The species being offered for a guided hunt are mule deer, turkey, upland birds (pheasant, quail, praire chicken, dove), migratory birds (geese, ducks), & predators (coyote).
We also offer thousands of acres available for exclusive hunting leases, in addition to day hunts on our own 3,000 acres of intensively managed upland bird habitat.
Open Country Adventures is part of a working farm and ranch that has been privately owned by the same family for 120 years. Our operation consists of tens of thousands of acres of our own, and many more acres of leased and public land. Our business is located in southwest Nebraska, which allows us to enjoy many cloudless and dry days to hunt. Our topography consists of rolling sand hills, flat open farm ground, canyons, and wooded creek and river bottoms. We are fortunate to have three beautiful lakes nearby, Enders Reservoir, Swanson Reservoir and Nebraska's largest body of water, Lake McConaughy.
All of our guided hunts are guided by local guides, who have been long time residents of the area.
One of the unique things we offer is a diverse area in which to hunt. Our goal for each hunt is to never hunt the same place twice, so you'll get plenty of opportunity to see the area and many parts of our ranch. If pheasant hunting, you can bring your own dog or you can hunt with our great bird dogs, many which are trained by Eldon Hongo, professional bird dog trainer. With big country to cover, transportation is essential. After a considerable search, we found the answer - a four-wheel drive, custom-retrofitted ambulance - our ultimate "Hunt Limo". Safety, comfort, and uniqueness in a package we know you will enjoy.
After the hunt, you will enjoy home-style meals and a place to kick back and relax. We are showcasing the Balcony House Bed and Breakfast as our top of the line accommodations. Proprietors Jim and Linda Pirog do an excellent job of providing our guests with a gratifying and restful stay.
