Hi, I'm Rich Higgins proprietor of the Trapper Creek Lodge. My family has been providing outdoor recreational opportunities from our ranch here in Western Montana since the 1960's. We consider ourselves lucky to be in the best area you can find in United States - Western Montana! Trapper Creek Lodge is located on the confluence between Trapper Creek coming out of Trapper Canyon and the West Fork of the Bitterroot River on the south end of the Bitterroot Valley.
The lodge is located in a small medow in Trapper Canyon at the base of snow capped Trapper Peak and the Sugar Loaf Mountain. We are only 3.5 miles from the Selway-Bitterroot wilderness. As the crow flies we are only 16 miles from the Continental Divide. The views are spectacular!
Elk, deer, bear, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, moose and grouse are all available for fall hunting in the Bitterroots. We can draw a few maps and give advice to a knowledgeable hunter, and he/she can expect good results when hunting for deer and elk right here from our ranch. Non-resident Montana licenses are limited and available by lottery. These licenses must be applied for through the State in February for drawing in March. Bird season opens around the first of September as do general archery and some special permit rifle hunts. Bear can be hunted in both spring and fall. Elk and deer season begins late October and continues through November.
Our Western Montana location offers the benefits of quiet seclusion and accommodates a wide verity of year round activities, including: fishing, hunting, rock collecting/prospecting, skiiing, snowmobiling, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking. If your favorite activity isn't listed, just ask us. There are too many recreational opportunities available in our area to list.
